Zoe's Ice Cream Emporium - Delaware Water Gap, PA
Located within Castle Inn, on the corner of Delaware Avenue and Waring Drive, is Zoe's Ice Cream Emporium. Opened in 2010, the Emporium stands in the same location where a victorian ice cream parlor once stood in 1906. The tile floors and log-supported ceilings are original. The rest is an ongoing faithful re-creation of a soda fountain of the epoque. The stained glass on the antique back-bar has crosses, typical of apothecaries of the era, that served ice cream from the soda fountain counter. The antique matching bent wire chairs in the Emporium have been collected slowly from ice cream parlors long gone. There is even a children's table so that they too can enjoy the feel of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor (and an even smaller doll's table and chairs). The tables came from the famed Tavern on the Green in NY after it closed in 2009. The mirror over the massive fireplace is from the Plaza Hotel.
Zoe's Ice Cream Emporium appeals to people of all ages. As they step through our doors, young and old often voice that they feel they are "stepping back in time." Older people recall a childhood place they frequented growing up. Children and teenagers instinctively know that there is something special and "cool" about our parlor.
Every age group enjoys seeing things done the way the "old fashioned way." Sodas are made from syrup in antique pumps and seltzer that comes from an antique goose-neck seltzer fountain. Elaborate ice cream sundaes and banana splits are served in glass dishes and boats. Root beer floats are served in tall glasses with a dollop of whipped cream on top. Egg creams are made the authentic Brooklyn way with Foxes U-Bet chocolate syrup and served with the obligatory pretzel. All our ice cream is premium gold Hersey's ice cream.
There is a ramp in the front of the building but a low step up to the door.
Styrofoam is never used. Eat-in ice cream and sodas are served in glass dishes.
