The Museum at Bethel Woods Main Exhibit – Bethel Woods Center for the Arts

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is situated on the site of one of the most significant cultural events of the 1960s—the Woodstock Music and Art Fair.

The Museum at Bethel Woods is an integral part of Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Through the in-depth study and exhibition of the social, political, and cultural events of the 1960s, as well as the preservation of the historic site of the Woodstock festival, The Museum educates individuals about the issues and lessons of a decade of radical change while inspiring a new generation to contribute positively to the world around them.

The award-winning Main Exhibit tells the story of the 1960s and the Woodstock festival through immersive multimedia, historic artifacts, personal stories and profiles, music, film and images which portray the sights, sounds and culture of the 1960s.

Special exhibits, thought-provoking film and speaker series, and inspirational youth programs expand on the topics explored in the main exhibit and give guests reason to return again and again.

In addition to preserving and interpreting an era, the Museum is actively involved in our community—through education, economic development, and historic preservation—to encourage social responsibility among our visitors and supporters and to advocate for issues that make Sullivan County, and the world at large, a better place. To borrow from 1960s ideology, everyone has the power to change the world.

General support for The Museum at Bethel Woods is provided by a grant from the William and Elaine Kaplan Private Foundation.
