Laurel Grove Cemetery - Port Jervis, NY
Founded by Dr. John Conkling on July 15th, 1856 during a time when cemeteries were being created to serve not only as final resting places, but also as park-like recreational areas where persons could stroll or take carriage rides. The landscape of Laurel Grove Cemetery was designed by NYC architect Howard Daniels, with winding paths that were lined with hemlock, pines and laurels. The beautiful monuments and mausoleums testify to the fact that this is where many prominent citizens were laid to rest.
At the tip of the cemetery, where the Neversink and Delaware Rivers converge, you will find Tri-State Rock.
There is a paved roadway which can be used to drive or walk the cemetery.
