Bashakill Vineyards - Wurtsboro, NY
Bashakill Vineyards is Sullivan County’s first commercial winery, specializing in Germanic style whites and oak aged reds. We are also a licensed farm brewery serving two styles of beers made from our custom three-barrel brewing system. One is a full bodied stout, the other a cream ale—both served by the glass or half growler on premises.
A trip to Bashakill is a very relaxing and special experience, not to be missed. We have live music every day that we are open. We are dog friendly as long as they are leashed. Our tasting room sells arts and crafts exhibits, showcasing local artisans.
The vineyard sits across the street from the Bashakill Wetlands, a 3,107 Wildlife Management Area.
The Bashakill WMA contains the largest freshwater wetland in southeastern New York. Ponds, marshes, swamps, fields, and forests are also found on the property. There is a substantial chestnut oak forest. Other tree species include red maple, white pine, Scotch pine, aspen, oak, locust and other hardwood trees. The diversity of habitats and species found in the Bashakill provide opportunities for hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, canoeing, wildlife observation and nature photography.
The numerous parking areas and boat launches are easily accessed from many of the roads surrounding the WMA. In addition, 15 miles of walking trails and several observation towers enhance the visitor's outdoor experience. One trail follows the historic D&H Canal which borders the Bashakill on the west. On the east side of the marsh, the O & W railroad bed is used as a trail as well.
The Winery is handicapped accessible.
The grapes are grown organically.
